The Spider Cave

Archive for August 2012

So here we are. I normally do a ride of the month and I picked this particular ride as my Ride of the Month.

I started off at 6 in the morning. The sun was just peeking out. I had left my sun shades at work so I had to wear my transparent ones which I mostly use for night riding. So I checked my bike and headed out. The first thing that hit me was the coldness. It was not windy but there was damp cold in the air which chilled me. But it only remained for 15 mins then my body adapted to the weather. This is one of the best things about a human body that it adapts to whatever the situation is. Not extreme situations but you have to be prepared for it and dress accordingly. The best time to test this is riding in January. I’ve cycled at minus three and you don’t really need an insulation for legs and arms or chest. You have to make sure your feet are properly safe and snug, your hands and lastly your ears. These three parts bug me a lot.

So I rode my way through then quiet busy roads and up my way towards Slamannan. I always loved this town. I was not expecting so much climbing but there were hills so I climbed never coming off the bike. The only time I had to stop and get off the bike when I had to take photos. And that was my big problem. The music player on my phone kept crashing and I had to stop to fix it. Taking photos cost me but it was worth it.

I climbed and climbed to Slamannan. There was a little bit of up and down after and then finally I reached Black Loch, the highlight of this ride. I actually have seen it before last year when I was doing Freshnlo Pedal For Scotland 2011. I really loved the scenery.

I had a little break as I was 13 miles in. I carried on taking a last look at this favourite loch of mine. This stretch of road was amazing. Up and down and quiet. Reminiscent of last year, this little stretch to Avonbridge I particularly enjoyed.

I bought a bottle of water from a shop in Avonbridge and made my way up the road. There was a yellow road sign saying this road will be closed for Pedal For Scotland 2012 next week. I felt a bit sad as I am not going to attend this year because I have a wedding coming up. I had registered and even my number had come through the post. Number 299. Oh well, nothing can be done now.

There was a good amount of climb after Avon. I was around 650 feet up which was ok. I started to see school kids now in the little villages. And I came across this little village called

which was pretty awesome. It was quite small though. I came to Shieldhill and turned right down. Yes I said down and it was a full descent for 2 miles. I hit 36.4 mph down that and it was fast and amazing. This was worth the whole ride. I am more of a fan of ascent and like a good climb but oh boy that descent was worth it. That made me join my normal route and 26 miles in I took a last break and had a sandwich from Tesco. Three more miles and I would reach home and that I did. 9 am. Took me 2 and a half hours excluding breaks.

I was expecting it to be and easy ride but all that climbing got me but I really enjoyed it to name it my ride of the month.

349) Batman : The Dark Knight (Issue 02)

Author : DC Comics

Date (I read) : 24/8/12

Length : 51 Pages Comic book

Location : Collected

Pace of story : Medium

Collecting : i) Batman: The Dark Knight #2 ‘A Rush Of Blood’ ii) Detective Comics #2 ‘Playtime’s Over

Rating : 5 Stars

Synopsis : In Batman The Dark Knight, the Joker is free and causing havoc. The inmates from the Arkham are loose and Batman confronts Joker in a train.

In Detective Comics, Joker is missing from Arkham silently and Batman walks into a trap to confront these weird criminals. They have captured Commish Gordon and you see him all patched like a doll and the mention of The Dollmaker is there. Next one should be good.

Only one word to describe this one. Amazing. It was an epic. A masterpiece. It was Inception times 100. All I can say it was released at a very bad time. At the start of Ramadhan. Seriously, Christopher Nolan, out of all the dates you just have to pick that one. Anyway I did try to arrange but Ramadhan means you just dont have enough time so we waited a whole month.

And finally we saw it on Tuesday 21/8/12. Precisely after a month and I was full blown by it. Especially Bane I loved it. He was scary plus wise and intelligent at the same time, as my brother said. His everything was scary. At some points of the film, he enters surprisingly and he immediately starts to own the scene. Even with Batman’s presence, Bane dominates the scene. A very well and excellent portrayed by Tom Hardy. I fell in love with his coat.

Second thing was Cat Woman. Brilliantly portrayed. And how she fits in the film was very well.

And thirdly, Batman was amazing as ever but still I would, personally, think Bane was more amazing. But still Christian Bale is always awesome. Gordon was a good supporting character. The film was not as brutal as I expected. It was emotional at points and more action packed. Next if anyone is going to make Batman movies, I would like a gory, mysterious and kind of a gothic story. Something horror. Just like the comics are going these days.

I really enjoyed the movie. There is a twist in the film and there is a twist at the end which I would not tell you but all I can say is the end satisfies you to the core.

Rating: 9/10

So until next film, farewell.

Here it is. Fresh, just received, Mr Freeze in all his evil glory coming as a black pawn. I have grown up watching Mr Freeze and at one point he was my favourite Batman villian. Here it is.

Even though I live in the UK we still get these kind of rains. It is quite humid and it’s raining slightly. Kind of a dusty air. It is absolutely stunning

Location : Collected

ISBN : 1904419801

Pace of story : Medium

Theme : Comic, graphic novel

Collecting : The Uncanny X Men 118 to 124

Rating : 7 Stars

Synopsis : I have already read this. See entry 121. At that time I did not really what was going on but now I am following it. I will summarize each issue on its own.

X Men 118: The Submergence Of Japan

The team ends up in Japan and a little misunderstanding with Sunfire but they sort it out. Two Mandroids attack them but after defeating, one becomes Moses Magnum and seeks the rulership of Japan.

X Men 119: Twas The Night Before Christmas…

A big fight Erupts between Magnum and Banshee and Japan is saved by earthquake. This reminds me of the earthquake that happened in Japan in March 2011.

X Men 120: Wanted: Wolverine – Dead Or Alive

Finally they leave Japan but more trouble awaits as their plane is diverted to Canada because of some fake blizzard. They find out it is Alpha Fight that is after Wolverine again. The plane is forced to land in Canada and they escape but in the city, Nightcrawler and Wolverine gets kidnapped.

X Men 121: Shoot-out At The Stampede

The X Men battle with Alpha Fight over the capture of Wolverine and Shaman accidently triggers a full blizzard which Storm ends up defusing. They beat Alpha and now they are heading home. Finally.

X Men 122: Cry For The Children

This was a bit easy going. Storm goes off to find her house where she was born and she finds the house in graffiti and home to junkies.

X Men 123: Listen – This One Will Kill You

This one was awesome. Arcade captures the X Men and traps them in a pinball machine. Each X Man faces a different life killing maze. I would rate this 9/10.

X Men 124: He Only Laughs When I Hurt

Still captured by Arcade they manage to get the upper hand and Arcade ends up retreating. I enjoyed these two comics.

X Men Annual 3: A Fire In The Sky

Arkon comes for help from his planet. He kidnaps Storm because he needs lightning energy to activate the ring around his planet so they can get light. They end up fighting first then agreeing so Storm shoots Cyclops and he absorbs the energy then Cyclops shoots a beam into this device which lits the planet. Bit stupid.

Well gentlemen, brace yourselves cuz Dark Phoenix saga is starting next.

Just recieved. How cool does this black bishop looks
